You're driving up to a toll booth. Or you're done choosing groceries and are fast approaching the checkout counter. Or you're done checking in and now choosing your line to pass security. In all three cases, you - and everyone else playing the same game - are choosing the shortest line. This is an analogy for finding a good opportunity: the most evident ones are already taken. To find the other opportunities, you need an informational edge. This can be devloped due to domain specific knowledge or honing a keen sense of observation, reading signs that not everyone can read which point to which line will be shorter.
